rishi, sanji and i went to ms. nina's house for a playdate today. they have a great, open space and sanji loves exploring new toys and also enjoys seeing toys that she also has at home. rishi enjoys testing out emma's bouncy seat and gripping her toy rings. he was awake the entire morning, less a few moments where he dozed off. he is so sweet and growing so fast. i am really inhaling him and remaining mindful that while the days are long, the years are short. my babies are my heart.

12 weeks old

the rishster is 12 weeks old today. every week i am amazed at how little time he's actually spent on the outside of my tummy and how it feels like he's never not been with us. this morning we had an early playdate at the mall. nice to have a place where the kids can be loud and indoors on a rainy day, when it isn't busy and is free. rishi was happy sitting on my lap watching his big sis and friends run around and dance to no music. he is starting to hold little toys and tries to bring them to his mouth. amit still gets alot more smiles and coos than i get, what's up with that? we are working on starting bedtime earlier. finally down to 8pm, waking up at 5am to eat and then sleeping a few more hours before starting our day.

rishi had a playdate today. and unlike most playdates, he was awake the whole time. he is really noticing everything around him. he and emma even gave sanji a few 'what is she thinking?' looks as she ran around them like a wild monkey.

rishi hosted the shan's over for brunch today. he even decided to nap at the same time as sanji, which means that i could nap too, nice. he's starting to drool and it looks like his two front bottom teeth are visible under his gums. i'm not sure that i'm ready to go thru teething again, already!

rishi had another day lounging in his diaper. in the afternoon, we got out for errands. the library, asian market, albertson's. then home and hanging out for a bit in the fresh air. rishi was very playful today and we got alot of fun expressions out of him. his lola is visiting in a few weeks and she is so excited to see how he has changed.

rishi had a nice friday at home. everyone wore jammies or just in diapers all day. rishi is a little move and shaker. his arms and legs are always going. he seems to like this hanging elephant toy that when you pull it, it plays music or makes frog sounds. he also likes looking at himself in the mirror above his swing. amit and i have a joking competition over who gets 'the first smile of the day'. even though i wake up with him, i don't always get the first smile, but i did today :)

rishi laughed today. oh pure bliss. he had been giving us these little chuckles but today i tickled his chin with my chin (i do it too sanji too, i always call it chinning, lol) and he laughed and i was stunned. the sweetest sound. i got him to laugh a few more times and then i tried to record him on my macbook. he was pretty laughed out by then. he gave me a few of the chuckles and one short laugh. i love how amazing the seemingly simple becomes when it is in relation to a little, new life.

rishi took his first trip to the zoo today! it was a beautiful day and we met ms. allegra & nate there. i loaded up the babies and crossed my fingers. all the kids had a great time. rishi slept half the time, looked around 1/4 of the time and looked around while sucking his hands the other 1/4 of the time :) sanji and dee played while rishi and i sat on a bench so he could nurse. i just love feeding him outside on a sunny day. i picked him up when he started to fuss and he cried a little before opening his eyes. when they opened, he was suddenly surprised and quiet and just taking in the sights. allegra and i got a kick out of his shock. i think the sights and sounds must have made for a fun morning for him. it is so fun having so many firsts after having just recently gone thru them with sanji and fondly remembering having them so many years ago, with the first little to have my heart - my deepak. rishi so much reminds me of him. <3

11 weeks old

rishi is 11 weeks old today. it's cliche and all moms feel this way, at least i hope, but gosh i am just so in awe and in love with him. i love his smiles, his coos, his sad face, when he raises his eyebrows, when he is surprised by something. i love when he clutches my finger or holds on to my shirt or necklace. i love going to sleep and waking up next to him. i love rocking him, i love how his chunky little legs go nuts when he's having his bath. i love how he looks like a little man. i love how he smiles at himself when he looks into his car mirror. everyday i think how easily he could not have been and i am so thankful for the best surprise of my life. today we hung out with ms. anne and her daughter, whom dee had a playdate with. ms. allegra and nate came by too. it was another lovely day, with a walk to summerlake in the evening.

rishi and sanji got a double stroller today. i hope they are enjoying it as much as i am. after a morning out at REI picking up the stroller (and a new bike for deepak), we hung out at home the rest of the day. during the evening we tested out our new wheels on a stroll around the neighborhood.

rishi is such a hand eating, cooing, chunkafied, cutester. oh my how he loves those hands. and he wants them both in his mouth and he whines when he doesn't succeed. his coos are so sweet and i totally melt for them. when i look in his eyes and talk to him, he just makes the sweetest sounds ever and i love how his tone fluctuates. baby talk is just too cute. today the littles and i went to the mall. rishi was awake and content to be pushed around for our short trip. in the evening we took a drive downtown to pick up daddy's favorite hot sauce. then a few errands on the way home. pretty exciting night out for a 10 week old :)

rishi went downtown for the first time today. well downtown and outside. deepak had a field trip at a theatre downtown and we had to drop him off. the play was only an hour so we decided to walk around and pass the time. it was a lovely, sunny day. rishi was very taken with all the sights, i could see him looking at me and then looking behind and around me. sanji had tons of fun and did so great walking the whole time. we stopped for coffee at starbucks and then walked to finnegan's toystore, where one could easily spend way too much before they realized it. we picked up some teether's for rishi and surprises for the other kids too. oh, rishi also had his first 'up the back diaper blowout' this morning. RIGHT as were about to leave too. SO glad we weren't in the car! it was so bad that amit thought i should cut his clothes off of him. men. i showed him how i could easily get it off without smearing poop all over rishi :)

rishi had a lovely morning today with sanji and i. our friend was having their carseat installed near our house so we met up and decided to have breakfast at murrayhill cafe. it was rishi's first time at a restaurant! because we don't use a bucket carseat, eating out is difficult with an infant. alot of places don't have room for a stroller at the table. we planned to eat ourdoors but they weren't serving outside so we sat inside. rishi sat in my lap and was just taking in all the sights, then he fell asleep and slept thru our meal in his stroller. afterwards we played outside and watched sanji run and heard her telling us about all the things she saw around us. we took a stroll around the 'lake' and it was really just a lovely, simple morning. i can't wait for warm weather to be in full force!

rishi had his first st. patrick's day and he wore a onesie stating just that. he had a playdate with nate, noah and emma this morning. he was happy to be passed around from mama to mama and to watch the toddlers play. he and emma think they are silly and they plan to give them a run for their money next year! he also was relocated in the car. we swapped him from behind the passenger seat to behind the driver's seat, with sanji next to him. risky but we'll see if she doesn't poke his eye out!

10 weeks old

rishi is in double digits now! i can not believe 10 weeks have passed already. he is already so unique from his siblings. he is my first 'excellent' sleeper. i feel guilty even saying that. babies are designed to wake often, some do, some not so much. rishi sleeps up to 8 hrs straight but it's a range of 5 to 8 on any given night. still amazing compared to my other two. he is also this little solid rock, like a medicine ball. looks small and compact but shockingly heavy when you lift him, lol. he sticks his tongue out alot and slobbers all over me when i am holding him, either on my shoulder or my arm if i am holding him forward. he's such a little gorilla, frog, turtle, baby :)

rishi met ms. anne & aeryn for the first time today. they very generously came bearing gifts, for all the kids. so sweet. we enjoyed muffins and lemon/raspberry bars. rishi seemed content after his meals today (he always is!) so i think he might've gotten a taste of the sweetness. i am noticing that rishi gives his best smiles to amit. sanji totally favors her dad so i am pretty determined to be rishi's #1. rishi is very interested in his siblings. when i he is laying on the bed and the kids and i are around him, he looks really happy and curious. he is cooing so much and his voice is just music to my ears!

rishi spent this morning with his daddy and the sibs. i got away for two whole hours with a girlfriend. my second kid free outing, this month! big deal for me. rishi was great but was very happy to have the milk source return to him. we spent the rest of sunday lounging at home and playing. rishi really loves getting lots of kisses and i love giving them to him. he's getting so big but i am mindful to really look at him and see how tiny he is. i don't want to spend so much time thinking of how big he's getting and lose those moments to enjoy this very small window where he is such a tiny being.

rishi has been to costco too many times in his short life! it's such a routine, we get the same things every time. on this particular trip, rishi was not happy in his kangaroo pouch. i faced him outward, he still was not pleased. i took him out and faced him forward, then he was content. he was just determined for me to provide all the muscle, and my arms felt it. this worries me that he won't like the ergo because it is only mama-facing. forward facing baby wearing isn't ideal, i've read/heard. we still have a few months before he's in the ergo so we will see.

rishi loves the kissy game. it's where i give him lots of light kisses, sometimes mini raspberries. he opens his mouth trying to get me and most of the time when i pull back and pause, he will give me a big smile. i get lots of coos during our kissy games too. rishi is a pro at getting his hand in his mouth and i still find it amusing how excited he is when he first makes fist to mouth contact. his first pair of shoes arrived today, some old school skater style vans, so cute! i'm not big on baby shoes but it's so cold and these are crib shoes. i am thinking his feet will be a bit more toasty with these on over his socks.

rishi had a busy morning with friends. we had a book club/playdate/brunch event that we hosted and it was a lovely morning. rishi slept nearly the whole time. his days start later than i'd prefer! then in the evening, he went to his first school concert. the last school concert deepak had, i was bout 32 weeks pg with him. he didn't mind when the music and singing started. he spent 1/3 of the time sleeping, 1/3 nursing and 1/3 looking around. i so love our kangaroo pouch, kept him nice and cozy. i have decided that we really need to not wear anything with collars on it. as it stands rish-a-roni is little mr. no neck and polo style shirts aren't doing him any favors!

rishi wore red for the first time today. not a bright tomato-y red, but a dark bloody red. sorry i couldn't think of a less gruesome word to describe it! it's a onesie with a robot on it that i think is super cute. his little pants are red and light blue stripes on white and he just looks super cute. my little robot gorilla. his cradle cap came back to torment me so another olive oil head massage before today's bath. hopefully it just goes away permanently soon, i'm over the flakes everywhere!

this is rishi's last week in single digits! today we ran lots of errands - costco, babies r us, mall, grocery. it FEELS like alot more with a toddler and infant. plus some of our errands were after picking up dee from school so we were just a big old group today :) rishi gets so happy when he gets his hands into his mouth, you would think they tasted like a gourmet meal. it's funny because some of his cries seem quite forced, like he doesn't want to exert the energy to ACTUALLY cry, so he'll throw out a 'wah' and then there's a pause like 'are you gonna hook me up or should i make more noise?' tonight i did the naughty mommy act of letting him cry while i held him up so amit and i could melt over his sad face. it was rather adorable, we really need the camera on standby. he slept 7 hours last night from 10pm-5am and i wasn't even tired getting up at 5 to feed him, it felt great to get such a nice stretch of sleep!

rishi was happy that his daddy and big brother were home today. daddy is always working from home but he was supposed to go out of town and didn't because he got tonsillitis. we are secretly pleased about this. deepak had a 99 fever over the weekend but was dramatic about it so we let him stay home monday so he would be 100% on tuesday. rishi enjoyed all the sunshine that filled the house and had a very happy day being loved and sucking on his hands.

rishi is suddenly very fair. 1/2 indian, 1/4 filipino and 1/4 white. you would think i would have brown babies but both my sons are so fair. sanji is fair but she's definitely brown and adorable. it is crazy how his skin just so suddenly changed. he was awake for super long stretches today. he's a ninja. i'd be holding him thinking he was sleeping while i read my book, i would look at him in the crook of my arm and he'd be totally awake. sometimes he was looking at me like 'HELLOOO' other times he looked suspicious and still other times he looked amused. sanji was the baby who took many, many short naps and i am so hoping today was a fluke and he keeps up his super long daytime stretches of sleep. but however it works out, we adjust and transition like we always do.

rishi slept thru a round of errands, as he does most saturdays. alot of times, he and sanji will fall asleep in the car. when this happens, deepak & i go into whatever store we need to and amit stays in the car with the babies. or i stay in and amit goes. rishi did go into rei for the first time, he was comfy cozy in the kangaroo pouch. i love this thing. no ring to adjust, no fabric to tug or wrap. it is adjustable with a double row of snaps, it fits in my diaper bag, i just pop it over my head and put him in. i love it. and i love him. duh. lol. his cradle cap is improving! didn't work with my other kids but olive oil and a soft brush makes ALL the diff on the rishster.

two months old!

rishi is two months old today! like all mamas, i think my son is the sweetest and most amazing being ever. we went for his 2mo well baby visit today. he is in the 92nd percentile for weight and the 55th for length. short and chunkafied, my little baby gorilla. he is doing great, there aren't too many expectations at his age :) i am concerned about eczema and the nurse practitioner said i can consider allergy testing him at 3mo, though it's usually more accurate at 6mo. we will see how his skin is in one month. he had no vaccinations today, we are going to hold off on starting those. after the doc, we went to see dee's teacher for conferences where she had nothing but wonderful things to say about him, and rishi enjoyed sitting in his future teacher's lap.

rishi was a dream today. i wasn't feeling too well, i was warm but freezing, achey and exhausted. i gave in and slept, and so did rishi. sanji even took a super long nap with us and spent the rest of the day with her daddy in his office. sleeping all day helped so much. rishi was up for a really long time once we got up, but by then i was feeling up to being out of bed. nothing beats snuggling a sleeping baby, or babies!

rishi had a playdate today that we had to cancel. we had a tiring night, due to a certain big sister who was cranky. it was one of those days where we just hung out at home. i think rishi likes taking a bath. well, he surely doesn't dislike it. there's nothing he's done that is some huge indication of liking it, other than not crying, lol. i am bathing him every other day and then lathering him with cetaphil and vaseline (different areas). he has dry skin like sanjana, it's worse in his chunky little crevices. poor thing.

8 weeks old

rish-a-roni is 8 weeks old today! i still think it is incredible, how despite being with us just 8 weeks, it feels so natural as though he was never not there. it has felt that way with each child, and i imagine all families feel that way with each new addition. rishi went to pump it up today, another outing he slept thru. i can't even imagine what life will be like once he's mobile! his smiles and reactions to us are increasing, i love how excited he is to see me when he wakes up. he is so my heart, all my babies are my heart. he's not digging tummy time, none of my babies did and all crawled within the average expectation of 7-8 months and the first two walked fairly early (9-10 months) so i'm not too worried. i think it's hilarious that 'they' suggest 15 min of tummy time twice a day, from birth. good luck because rishi is so not having it! he's letting me swaddle him suddenly. i love when just his little head is poking out and he's wrapped like a little lumpia.

rishi had a playdate with baby lukas today. lukas is about six weeks older than rish and his big brother and sister go to school with deepak. they totally had a conversation when we were sitting with them facing one another. they responded to each other's coos, it was so sweet! it was two babies, four chins and no necks! these are two of the cheekiest baby boys i have ever seen. later in the day we ran to home goods, i put the kids in the car while amit was paying. rishi was fussing so i was standing outside next to him in his carseat so he could suck on my pinky while deepak & sanji played in the back of the car. we had black eyed peas playing and we were all dancing. it was so fun and i saw some weird looks from passersby but we just laughed and i love those silly moments that being a mom allots me. i can not imagine myself dancing in a parking lot if i were kid free, lol!
